Embodied Carbon in Construction Materials

As part of the work of The Chancery Lange Project, we were responsible for transposing this clause to US laws and market relevance. A few key points:

• Designed to provide a framework and sufficient flexibility as the tools, technology and market for lower embodied carbon materials are rapidly changing.

• Optional language to suit each project’s specific needs, including exculpatory language, a Carbon Bonus, and a Carbon Budget Payment.

• Rely heavily on resources developed by industry leaders, including the Carbon Leadership Forum and International Living Future Institute.

• The goal is that the language of this clause will get stronger as the market evolves.
